Conveying screw element, Ø58 mm, 1.0D pitch, 58 mm long
SE 58/58 runs in the compression and metering zone of a 58 mm co-rotating extruder. One diameter pitch, one diameter long, bi-lobed profile. We cut the bore to your shaft and gauge it with a spline plug before it ships.
A 58 mm machine needs a steady hand-off between the melting zone and the die. That is the job of this element.
SE 58/58 carries a 58 mm pitch, so one full flight wraps the shaft in one diameter. The fill level stays high and the pressure rises gently. Because of this, the element suits the section right after the last kneading block, where the melt has to settle before it reaches the vent or the die.
In practice, most 58 mm lines run two to four of these in a row. Add one when the motor load sits low and the melt pressure drops too early. Take one out when the vent starts spitting polymer.
The bore carries the torque, so we cut it last. We hob the flight first, then grind the flank and the tip, then cut the involute spline to DIN 5480 or to the dimensions on your shaft drawing.
After that, every piece goes through a spline plug gauge. We do not sample this check, because a bore that runs 0.02 mm tight will not slide onto the shaft cold.
At the same time, we hold the outer diameter to the clearance your barrel needs. Send the barrel bore and the centre distance with the order, and we set the tolerance from those two numbers.
Standard supply is nitrided 38CrMoAlA (DIN 1.8509), case depth 0.3 to 0.5 mm, surface hardness 900 to 1100 HV. For filled compounds with calcium carbonate or talc we recommend PM HIP tool steel, which keeps the flank sharp far longer. For corrosive recipes we switch to stainless or a nickel alloy.
Check three numbers on the machine: screw diameter, centre distance, and the spline size on the shaft end. Send a photo of the worn element next to a ruler if the drawing is gone. We confirm the pitch and the hand, then quote.
