The KB 45° Kneading Block (45/5/30 R/L & 45/5/40 R/L) drives the melting and mixing process in co-rotating twin screw extruders. The 45° stagger angle strikes a perfect balance between strong shear and steady material push.
We offer two standard lengths (30 mm and 40 mm) with two flow options:
Forward Elements (R): Push material forward and melt solid resin smoothly.
Reverse Elements (L): Block material flow to build high pressure. This holds material in the mixing zone longer for complete melting.
We machine every block on CNC 5-axis equipment using top-grade tool steel. You get high accuracy, long wear life, and strong corrosion resistance.

Balanced Performance: The 45° angle balances pushing power and mixing shear.
High-Frequency Cutting: The 5-disc setup cuts material 5 times in a short length. It breaks down powder clusters fast.
Strong Pressure Seal: The reverse blocks (L) build high pressure to prevent unmelted resin from passing through.
Top Wear Materials: We use CPM 10V powder steel to boost wear life by 3 to 5 times in glass-fiber compounding.
Exact Machine Match: We build elements to strict tolerances. They match standard industry shafts directly.
Engineering Plastics: PA6, PA66, PET, PBT, and PC glass-fiber compounding.
Masterbatch Lines: Color, carbon black, and additive masterbatch mixing.
High-Fill Polymers: PP/PE with up to 70% calcium carbonate or talc filler.
Flame Retardants: Mild melting for heat-sensitive HFFR materials.
| Model | Stagger | Discs | Length | Flow Direction | Primary Function |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KB 45/5/30 R | 45° | 5 | 30 mm | Forward (R) | Fits tight spaces. Delivers gentle melting and initial mixing. |
| KB 45/5/40 R | 45° | 5 | 40 mm | Forward (R) | The main melting element. Delivers continuous shear for full plasticization. |
| KB 45/5/30 L | 45° | 5 | 30 mm | Reverse (L) | Short barrier. Builds medium back-pressure at the end of a mixing zone. |
| KB 45/5/40 L | 45° | 5 | 40 mm | Reverse (L) | Heavy barrier. Builds strong pressure seal to stop unmelted solids. |
A: Pair them in sequence: [ KB 45/5/40 R ] + [ KB 45/5/30 L or KB 45/5/40 L ]. The forward block pushes material ahead. The reverse block pushes back. This forces material into the disc gaps and creates high pressure for total melting.
A: Base your choice on your screw length:
40 mm Blocks: Provide longer continuous shear. They serve as the standard choice for main melting zones on mid-to-large production lines.
30 mm Blocks: Give you layout flexibility. Use them in tight mixing zones or right after side feeders.
A: Choose CPM 10V or WR5 powder steel. Glass fibers wear down standard steel quickly. CPM 10V lasts 3 times longer than standard M2 steel and reduces your downtime.
